September 2012

Football season is here and schools are back in session and Fall is finally near. Thank goodness the HOT Summer is coming to a close and soon the leaves will be changing and cooler temperatures will be here.

Times flies fast, so before you know it, it will be time to come to Hot Springs for the 2013 Winter Meeting.  Mark your calendar for February 8-10, 2013. Dr. Kate Williams is putting together an excellent program. Watch your mail for the postcard and check the website. www.arkvetmed.org   Just a few of the excellent opportunities will be an equine lab and a session on social media. Both are very hot topics. So, watch for the details of the entire program. It is going to be a FANTASTIC one!!

Our legislative team has been keeping a close eye on anything concerning the veterinary profession. Our lobbyist, along with Drs. David Blount, Lyndon Tate and Paul Turchi have been taking care of the Equine Massage Therapy and Teeth Floating issues. (See position statement)  On behalf of the veterinary profession, I would like to thank them tremendously for their time and hard work.  It is not an easy task and requires a lot of time and energy.

Dr. Scott Smith, the President of the Association has been keeping things running smoothly. He made a trip to LSU to present coats at the coating ceremony. They were very appreciative that he came to the presentation. In June, he attended the new graduate testing and encouraged them to join the association. If he ever needs a second job, he should consider public speaking. He gave a great presentation!!

Keep an eye on your mail. There will a lot of information coming over the next few months……Winter Meeting information, dues renewal and any other important updates.  As always, if you ever have a question, or I can help you with anything, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me.

Happy Fall!

Maggie
