During the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association’s Winter Meeting on February 6-8,2015 in Hot Springs, Dr. Jim Ralston was presented with the distinction and honor of being named the 2014 Veterinarian of the Year.
After graduating Oklahoma State University in 1971 and finishing his military obligation, Dr. Ralston returned to Arkansas and opened Ralston Animal Hospital in El Dorado, AR. After 38 years in practice, he retired with his wife Terry, to Hot Springs Village. He continues to serve the veterinary profession as secretary of the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Examining Board and enjoys playing golf as often as possible.
Dr. Ralston has been a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association since he graduated veterinary school in 1971. He has served on the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Examining Board for 13 years, where is currently serving as secretary/treasurer. Dr. Ralston served two terms on the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Foundation and also served as district trustee for his region.
Dr. Ralston’s civic activities include serving on the Union County Quorum Court for 2 years; 20-year board member of the Union County Animal Protection Society; Rotary Club; Kiwanis Club; Board of First Methodist Youth Administration; First Methodist Church Finance Committee.
Dr. Ralston has been married to his wife Terry for 20 years. They have 4 children between them and 9 grandchildren. Also making up his family is his dog, Hank, who is a Springer Spaniel.
