Dr. Donna Shaw receives 2015 Arkansas Veterinarian of the Year
Dr. Donna Shaw of Highland was awarded the 2015 Arkansas Veterinarian of the Year while attending the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association winter meeting in Hot Springs Feb. 5th-7th. During her 30 plus years as a veterinarian, Dr. Donna has served on several boards and committees. She was an advisory board member for Veterinary Economics for several years and served on the local school board for 16 years. She currently serves on the advisory board of the veterinary technician program at ASU Beebe and as a board member of the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Foundation, a memorial gift program to fund scholarships for Arkansas students attending veterinary school. Through the years during National Pet Week, Dr. Donna enjoyed speaking to children at the local elementary school, sponsoring coloring and essay contests, and taking her Great Dane to visit with the students.
Dr. Shaw, a 1983 graduate of Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine (LSU-SVM), and her husband Roger, a 1982 graduate of LSU-SVM, jointly practice at Shaw Veterinary Clinic in Highland. Since opening their practice in 1983, both Drs. Donna and Roger have contributed to their community. They have supported numerous sports camps with a special fondness for softball, participated in job shadowing programs, and mentored high school students. In addition, Dr. Donna has been active in supporting the youth at her church, the Ash Flat Church of Christ, along with Girl Scouts. Over the years, she has hosted many youth group meetings and purchased thousands of boxes of Girl Scout cookies which she sells over the counter at the veterinary clinic.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award. Veterinary medicine is an amazing profession and I hope to have more opportunities to serve making positive contributions to my community,” Dr. Donna said.
