President's Letter
August 2008
Thanks to Dr. Blount and Maggie Milligan for a great summer meeting at Sam’s
Town Tunica. The golf tournament was a huge success. We had 29 players consisting
of veterinarians and their families and drug reps from Merial, DVM, Idexx,
and Boehringer Ingelheim. The River-boat cruise was definitely a “hot”
experience. The food and entertainment were enjoyable. Dr. Deb Greco did a
wonderful program on several endocrine diseases. We look forward to the next
summer meeting at The Chateau in Branson.
The Southwest Veterinary Symposium,
October 2-5th is approaching. Arkansas is one of the five member states.
I encourage you to attend because we receive revenue from this event by the
number of attendees from Arkansas. Dr. Tim Woody will assume his role as President
of Southwest veterinary Symposium at the end of this meeting. In Dallas, there
will be a wide variety of well known speakers, a great numbers of vendors in
the exhibit hall, and lots of things to do in Dallas. Please try to attend
and show Dr. Woody our support.
Now that fall is approaching and our lives
slow down from the summer hustle take time to participate in your local and
district meetings. See how you can become involved in your Arkansas Veterinary
Medical Association.
See you at the Winter Meeting in Hot Springs.
Norette L. Underwood
Executive Director's Message
August 2008
Summer is coming to an end. We had a great Summer Meeting in Tunica.
Dr. David Blount put together a wonderful program. Dr. Deborah Greco was
very informative in her presentation. Even though it was extremely hot, Dr.
Norette Under-wood had an excellent golf tournament. There were 29 players
and great sponsorship from our vendors. Thank you Dr. Underwood for all your
hard work with the tournament. The ride on the Tunica Queen was hot, hot
hot!! Aside from the heat, the food was very good. Now that the Summer Meeting
is behind us, I will be focusing on the 2009 Winter Meeting. There will be
some changes in the meeting this year. The actual CE will start at 8 am on
Friday, February 6 and end at noon on Sunday, February 8. Please make note
of the new start time and adjust your schedules accordingly. (More details
to come) There will also be a larger exhibit hall this year. I am VERY excited
about that. Please talk to your vendors when they visit your clinics and
remind them how much we appreciate their support of our meeting. I am proud
of the fact that the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association’s Winter
Meeting is talked about across the country for the quality CE, great attendance
and the support we receive from our vendors. Lets keep them talking!!
I have
a lot of travel coming up in the next few months. The 9 States Leadership
Conference in Oklahoma, Southwest Veterinary Symposium and ASVMAE. I always
gain a lot of very useful information from these meetings. If you have not
registered for SWVS, there is still time. Dr. Tim Woody from Fayetteville
will be installed as President. We are proud of Dr. Woody!
Please keep your
eyes out for the information on the 2009 Winter Meeting. February is a busy
time of the year in Hot Springs, so make your hotel reservations early. The
hotel information will be in your mailbox soon!! If you have any questions
about the Winter Meeting or about anything else, give me a call!!! I am always
available for you.
I hope you all had a fantastic Summer and are looking forward
to beautiful Fall!!
Sincerely,
Maggie Milligan
